The International Passenger Survey (IPS)

This data is from the International Passenger Survey (IPS), conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).  Our colleagues in VisitBritain prepare analyses for the UK as a whole and the nations and regions.

Additional analysis can be found in the VisitBritain website. (This link takes you to an external website).

A file containing the source data for this dashboard is available for download via the Office for National Statistics website, via the "Source" link above the dashboard

IPS data since 2020

We have split the IPS data into two dashboards for the years up to and including 2019 and for 2021 and 2022, due to the break in data collection caused by the restrictions on travel resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can find the data for 2021 and 2022 here

Using these visualisations

In these visualisations, visits and nights are shown in thousands - numbers displayed in the charts should be multiplied by one thousand to achieve the whole number. Spend values are shown in millions.

We are working on solutions for downloading dashboards for use in presentations and other publications.  In the meantime we suggest taking a screenshot of the required chart or linking directly to the Observatory where possible.

Please read the disclaimer and advice on using the data
